Writer's Block: Countdown

If a catastrophe struck and you had to leave your home in a hurry (and never return), what items would you grab in your last ten minutes, and why?

I'd grab the cats, my wallet, ID and passport, my external hard drive (with all of my photos), my camera/batteries, a water bottle, my blankets, food, a few changes of clothes/underwear and my cell phone with charger.

I'm sure there are more practical things to grab, but that's what came to me off the top of my head.
Does anyone still read this? If yes, please reply.

Also, no entries have popped up on my friends page...is this because no one has journaled in forever or because there is a problem?
I can't believe how busy I have been the past few weeks.

I had my first clinical yesterday.  I was placed in the Mother/Baby unit at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.  I will be there for another 3 days.  I was assigned to a nurse (who had 4 moms and 2 babies (3 of the babies were in the NICU)).   I got to feel the fundus (top of the uterus) on all 4 moms (I was really excited about that for some reason), do newborn assessments and bring babies to their moms.  I learned about different meds and procedures on the floor as well.  It went by REALLY fast, which I was really happy about.  Hopefully I will be in Labor and Delivery next week!!

I'm really frustrated with Crystal.  She hasn't made ANY progress on moving in.  She's been to the house *maybe* 5 times.  I'm not quite sure what to do with this situation.  She is supposed to be moving her things in on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays...but that hasn't happened.  She came on Tuesday night to do homework but didn't scoop the box, so it hasn't been scooped since Monday (when I scooped it because she was coming back from Vegas).  I fed the cats yesterday morning before I left for my clinical and they haven't had food or water since (I'm in Lawrence).  Apparently, things "got really crazy at the house...in Leahood" yesterday, so she wasn't able to make it.  I'm going to be moving the litter box into her room and telling her that she has 4 options.  1- she can start moving her shit in and take care of animals that are 100% dependent.  2- she can move them back home until she can get her shit together. 3- she can board them at the vet until she gets her shit together. 4. I will take them to a shelter so they can find a home where they will be taken care of.  I know it sounds harsh, but I'm being taken advantage of and she is neglecting her cats.  We agreed that she HAD to keep up with the litter box in order to keep both cats, and she's not keeping her end of the agreement.  I'm the one that has to deal with the fact that our house smells like shit.  Bottom line, they aren't my cats, they aren't my responsibility and I'm tired of being taken advantage of.

The situation with the PDA is almost completely resolved.  I returned it and they finally tested it.  Surprise, surprise, it was found to be faulty, so they sent me a replacement.  They shipped it the Thursday before Labor Day weekend.  It came yesterday morning at 8:36 am.  I was in clinical all day and Crystal was supposed to come by the house.  It sat on the front porch (which is completely exposed) until about 6 tonight when my mom came by and picked it up for me.  Now why CompuVest didn't request a signature upon delivery, I'll never know.  I mean, seriously, they'll let FedEx just leave a $400 product at the door??  I had checked my tracking number online to get the number for FedEx so that they wouldn't try a third delivery and then send it back to CompuVest, when I discovered that they had just left it at the door.

Anyway, Craig just got home and we need to go to dinner for Ryan's birthday, so I gotta go!

Today was our first assessment of the summer semester.  I passed!  Whoot-whoot!

I'm pretty sure that everyone's blood pressure and pulse were much much higher than normal.  Mine was somewhere around 129/89 and 97 BPM.  Talk about stressing out about the assessment!  Oh yeah...the pulse has definitely come down now. :)

Well, I'm off!

Things are better today.  I feel like a real nursing student now- but who wouldn't walking around in scrubs with a stethoscope around your neck??  Class was pretty easy this week but I have a feeling it will be the last week I can say that.  Next week I have 6 chapters to read along with 8 pg x-y for a single class!!  I'm going to try to get all of that reading completed by Thursday or Friday.

In other news, I signed the lease for the house today.  The landlord is sending Crystal the lease so she can sign it.  She seems like she's going to be a good landlord and she's taking care of changing the locks, mowing the lawn, putting in a washer and dryer and more for no additional cost.

Anyway, I gotta go.

101 in 1001

I liked the 101 in 1001 that Katie posted, and I decided to make one of my own.

Like Katie's, the bold items are ones that have been completed and the italicized are ones that are in progress.

1001 days from the day the list was completed will be Monday February 22nd 2010.

My 4-Day Birthday Weekend

I'm finally getting around to writing about my birthday, so here it is.

On Thursday, Craig woke me up with a massage and made me breakfast.  We spent the entire day together (with the exception of when he went to work) and took quite the trip to the liquor store.  It was fabulous.  He made me dinner and we watched the 2 hour Grey's Anatomy.  I got another massage before we went to bed. :)

On Friday, I had lunch with mom and Sara (no margaritas at Jose Peppers though) and Jamie came to Lawrence for coffee in the evening.  She finally met Craig too!

Saturday, I cleaned like a mad-woman.  Ryan and Megan took us out for dinner at Local Burger, which is my new favorite place in Lawrence.  We went to Henry's and FINALLY people started showing up.  We went back to my place around 10:30 and Matt started a drinking game (which I would have rather not played).  Everyone left by 2 am and I didn't spend the evening praying to the porcelain god!!  YAY!

Sunday, my dad and family took Craig and me out to Waldo Pizza, my new favorite pizza joint in KC(ish).

All in all, it was fabulous!!!  And, I didn't even get carded (except for the liquor store).

My Daemon

When I took Child Lit in the Fall of 2005, I read a book called The Golden Compass.  They are making it into a movie (which comes out in December).  Here's my daemon....does it fit me??

My birthday was fabulous, but I'll have to update on that at another time!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yay!  It's official, I am 21 years old.  Craig and I had a lovely morning and spent the afternoon trying to hang some pictures up in my apartment (which is much more difficult than normal because of the style of the picture).  We also took a very expensive trip to the liquor store.  Tonight, I'm not sure what he has planned, but I know a very large bottle of champagne is going to be involved.

The other day, I bought a yucca plant.  Craig named the short one Jerry and I named the tall one Miyazaki (because he reminds me of a character from one of his movies).  I had a feeling that without naming it, I might kill it.  So, it has a name, or rather, two.

Katie's video is finally completed and delivered to her in San Diego.  I'm very happy with how it turned out.

I want another Amaretto Sour...but I put the Amaretto in Craig's apartment and he's at work. :(

Boo on the weather because it is pouring, but that's not going to get me down.  I'm going to have a fabulous birthday.  And I'm stretching it out for 4 days this year.

Well, I should get some stuff done around the house, though I'm limiting myself to dishes, dusting and clearing off the table.  Everything else that needs to be done is getting done in spare time during the rest of the weekend!
